Device Status

Whether a device is currently connected to the platform, and where to see it.

1. The three states

  • Online — connected right now.
  • Offline — has connected before, but isn’t right now.
  • Never connected — hasn’t connected yet.

You’ll see this on a device’s own page, in the device list, and rolled up on both your account and project dashboards — the project dashboard breaks it down as a count of online, offline, and never-connected devices; the account dashboard shows it per project and per device.

2. Last Connected

Each device shows a Last Connected time — a relative timestamp (“Never” if it hasn’t yet).

3. Not the same as sensor freshness

Device status is about the device’s connection. A sensor’s own “Last confirmed” or “Last reported” time (see Telemetry and Sending Commands) is about that sensor’s data. A sensor can show a recent value even while its device is currently offline — the two aren’t the same thing.

4. Sending a command to an offline device

If the platform already knows a device is offline, sending it a command fails immediately with a clear “Device offline” message — you’re not left waiting. That’s different from a device that’s online but slow to respond, which shows a “Confirming with device…” progression instead. See Sending Commands for the full picture.
